چکیده

In this paper the end-to-end performance evaluation of a tagged session is considered through the study of a tandem queueing network. A service discipline is adopted at each queue which allows for the study of First-Come First-Served (FCFS) as well as peak-rate-enforcing multiplexing schemes. A numerical approach is presented which allows for the computation of delay, jitter and inter-departure time distributions for the tagged cell stream. The cell inter-departure time probability distributions will be used to describe the tagged stream at the output of each queue, thereby facilitating the end-to-end delay and jitter analysis.

Transporting Mpeg-ii Video Streams on Atm Networks with a Modified J-edd Scheme

Real-time video demands a stringent delay and jitter requirement. A switch in the network needs to implement an effective scheduling algorithm to meet such a requirement. The Jitter-EDD (Earliest-Due-Date) scheme designed for packet switching networks is noted for its capability to control the end-to-end delay jitter to be within the delay variation in the last switching node of the path. It, h...

Evaluation of Jitter Introduced by ATM Switches and Workstations a Performance Evaluation

As ATM cells pass through an ATM network, they experience a variable amount of delay as a result of queuing and switching delays at the switches. Real-time applications need a low intercell arrival time variance or their real-time needs will not be meet. Therefore, in order to analyze the end-to-end performance of real-time applications or to estimate the quality of service parameters (QoS) tha...

Explicit delay/jitter bounds for real-time traffic over wireless ATM

A high performance, frame-based, real-time ATM scheduler is proposed for the wireless multimedia environment. We introduce the Delayed Frame Queueing (DFQ) scheduling protocol which only defines the service priorities, deadlines and eligibility times of queued cells. The DFQ protocol does not define the particular fashion in which a mobile or base station gains access to the shared transmission...

Di usion Approximation to Study the Flow Synchronizationin ATM Networks

Diiusion approximation is a method which consists in replacing a discrete valued process with an appropriate continuous one. Using this method, we study some problems related to the ow synchronization in ATM networks. We model the end-to-end transmission delay and introduce a synchronization station at the receiver level to compensate the dispersion eeect that can be drawn by the jitter phenome...
